March 19th – Prezi

Once we are out of the “A Week With…” Google Slides post, we can start looking at other great presentation applications out there.  A great one that takes a little bit of patience is Prezi.

March 19th – Prezi

Prezi is a great product, I just wanted to get that out of the way after my previous statement – but it can be a test of one’s patience.  Prezi looks like a typical presentation application but the nature of it is different and most people I introduce it to think “I know PowerPoint so I know this” but that can’t be further from the truth.  Prezi is PowerPoint/Slides other brother, similar but can do so much more.

Prezi has the built in power to zoom in and out to help people see the bigger picture.  An example is a presentation I setup for our counseling department that had a mountain as the “college application process” and the little steps you take to get to the top.  I was able to show the entire thing, then go to the little steps and refer back to the big picture.  Great visual for those in the audience to understand the steps.

I’ve also had the exact opposite, I’ll give students the option of Google Slides, PowerPoint, Keynote or Prezi and a few students always pick Prezi, then think “I know this” and end up switching to one of the others.  With that being said, just be patient and you’ll have an awesome presentation and learn a new skill!

Prezi has all the tools of the other presentation applications, but also has a nice iPad/iPhone app that changes the formatting to easily view and move back and forth.  So take some time, storyboard a presentation (or take an existing one) and dive into Prezi, you’ll be glad you did!
