Yesterday we jumped into the world of Screencasting with Quicktime which is included on all Mac’s – today we start on non-Mac based products and the first is Screencast-o-Matic.
March 22nd – Screencast-O-Matic
As discussed yesterday, screencasting allows for a lot of things in the classroom. Differentiation, Flipped Classroom, and students knowledge building are a few of the major things screencasting allows us you accomplish. Quicktime allowed us to do this on a Mac, but what if you don’t have one? Never fear, Screencast-O-Matic is here! Screencast-O-Matic is a download for either Mac or PC which allows you to record your screen, record your webcam, or do a combination of both. For most people I’d suggest the screen recording, but earlier this year I worked with a music teacher who recorded herself playing the notes across the screen using the screencast and webcam recording which was brilliant.
Simply visit the website and click on “Start Recording” – the browser will check for what’s installed and might prompt you to download an app for your computer, my suggestion is to do it. The installed version (now 2.0) has added features and can do some great things. Then launch the app and select the screen size and record! The video records into the app itself, then you’ll “Save to a Video File” and have it has an .mp4 video file.
