June 30th – A Week Revisited

Well, technology changes rapidly and earlier in the month I did A Week With Google Sites, and now Google has announced a new Google that is currently in beta.  The good news is the new Sites is SOOOO much better and student friendly.  So I’ll try this again – and the older Google Sites information should be valid for a little while still.

June 30th – A Week Revisited with the NEW Google Sites

Ah technology, just when you think you’ve figured it out, an update happens and the learning curve begins again.  Fortunately with the new Google Sites, it is easy to pick up, integrates with other Google Products even easier and looks a lot better.

The new Google Sites is still in Beta so there are only 3 themes and (hopefully) still more features to come, but its exciting to see what it can do.  Over the next few days I’ll go over the basics, changing themes and “the grid”, adding content, and then anything extra (keeping in mind things will change).

The Basics:

Like most of the “major” Google Apps (Docs, Slides, Sheets) you can access the “Sites” page by typing sites.google.com/new (if your organization has signed up for the Beta) – this should go away once we are live worldwide.

Once you’ve visited the new site, click on the red “plus” button, and you’ll have a new site pop up with the “Take a Tour” Window.  The new sites features a drag and drop method as well as a simple double click.

The New Sites also has a grid that everything can snap to – but we’ll continue on that tomorrow!
